WEi’s Kim YoHan is one of the fast-rising acting-dols in Korea right now and we must say with every project he tackles, his acting skills improve vividly. After marveling viewers in the popular web drama “A Love So Beautiful” and guest-starring in the hit thriller “Mouse” his next big role and first TV airing drama would come in the school series “School 2021” where he plays the endearing, funny, and absolutely charming character Kong KiJoon’. His proficient acting skills in this series have been greatly applauded and recognized by many as he took home 2 awards “Rookie of the Year” and “Best Couple Award” alongside co-star Cho YiHyun who plays the role of JiWon at the “2021 KBS Drama Awards”. Here are some of our favorite WEi’s Kim YoHan scenes as Kong KiJoon from the series.
1. The Long Jump Fail
In this scene, KiJoon tried to impress his crush SeoYoung (played by Hwang BoReumByeol) during the Physical Education class with his high jump skills, and as he happily runs to the stand daydreaming about people cheering for him, he comes back to reality when he hears the door open and he sees his former taekwondo members walking into the gym. This surprise makes him trip, leading to a hilarious and embarrassing moment.
2. “What is an apprenticeship?”
A normal question that sent shock waves amongst his fellow students and frankly viewers too as we didn’t see that coming. KiJoon and his classmates were having an interactive session with a former member of their department on the value and impact of apprenticeship. During the Q&A session, KiJoon seemed to be very interested in the subject and he kept asking questions to the amazement of his classmates. He eventually asked one of the most unsuspecting and bewildering questions that left both his classmates and the alumni looking shocked and confused: “What is an apprenticeship?”. His unfazed and innocent facial expression made this scene even more funny and adorable.
3. When he thought JiWon was going to commit suicide
This scene has to be one of the most powerful and heart-gushing scenes from the drama series. Right from the moment he read the suicide note, we could see how worried and concerned he was. And when he thought it was probably JiWon, we see that mood become even more amplified as he frantically calls her and races to her house in search of her. He gets there draped in sweats and hearing she was on the rooftop, without any explanation, he runs up to meet her, in hopes to prevent her from committing suicide. Luckily, she wasn’t the one who wrote the note and together they both save her friend at the end.
4. The cute date disguised as an assignment
From stealing little glances to the longing stares, and the adorably awkward run-ins, we could already tell how affectionate the two characters were for each other by now and in these scenes, it was beyond obvious the tension and chemistry they both had. Every moment in this scene probably led to an “aww” reaction from viewers as we get to watch a budding love story build between the characters.
5. The Confession
KiJoon finally owns up to his feelings and finds the courage to confess to JiWon and ask her on a date in the manliest yet adorable way ever. His facial expression clearly shows us how much he likes her and wants to be with her. Many viewers had been waiting for this moment since their first scene together and seeing them realizing their true feelings for each other and letting go of the past misunderstanding was truly beautiful to watch.
6. The Reconciliation
Probably one of the most anticipated moments of the series, viewers were expectedly waiting for the scene where KiJoon and YoungDo (played by Chu YoungWoo) would reconcile and this scene was just as powerful as it was emotional. YoungDo finally opens up about his true feelings and why he had been so angry with KiJoon and KiJoon realizing where he had gone wrong finally apologizes to YoungDo. While we do not get the immediate hugs and kisses as one might expect from both characters, the scene sets the tone for what would be a reignited friendship between the characters and as the series continues, we see it is a very beautiful and very supportive friendship.
Bonus Scenes
1. The Bra and Boxers incident
Funny and just embarrassing, both KiJoon and JiWon have found themselves in awkward situations in this scene and their reactions were nothing short of comical. Here JiWon is being chased around by her sister while holding a bra and in walks KiJoon who sees them. The awkward pause that ensues between them led to a funny moment. We also get to see KiJoon pick up a pair of boxers that seem to have fallen from the rooftop apartment where KiJoon is staying with his grandpa and while she sorts of contemplates what to do, in a speed of light KiJoon appears, hurriedly takes it from her and dashes up the stairs.
2. Muscle Mania Contest
In this scene, it looked like KiJoon was practicing for his next muscle mania appearance as he was seen flexing his muscles on the rooftop. Is that a morning routine?
