Concept
The concept for this album seems to have a theme of impulse, zeal, and fun. There’s an energy in OMEGA X that’s unlike anything we’ve seen or experienced before and it is always refreshing. Over the years, K-Pop has become a cultural phenomenon worldwide and there’s almost nothing that hasn’t been done before. However, OMEGA X’s music takes a novel approach to the medium and it shows. Three versions of concept photos were released for “WHAT’S GOIN’ ON”: the “E” version, the “F” version, and the “S” version. If we had it our way, “E” would stand for “Energy”, “F” for “Fascinating” and “S” for “Soft”. The “E” version of concept photos, as seen above, features the members in a Martian desert. There’s a “calm before the storm” vibe to the image, signifying inertia that is about to be set forth. When it comes to the fashion, this concept photo sees the members sporting a biker/racer aesthetic. The “F” version has a cool blue atmosphere as opposed to the passionate red of the “E” version. The members have a chic and composed look as they look straight ahead. The concept for this version seems to be a “black tie” event but with a GEN Z twist. Finally, the “S” version has a completely different mood from “E” and “F”. While the other concept photos were burning with passion, this one is more relaxed and romantic, showing us a different side to OMEGA X. The colour palette for this version is light and earthy which draws attention to the subtle sensibilities of the members.
Music
“WHAT’S GOIN’ ON” is made up of two new songs, ‘BAILA CON OX’ and ‘WHAT’S GOIN ON’. A music video was also released for ‘WHAT’S GOIN’ ON’. ‘BAILA CON X’ brings the very spirit of a rave in its breakbeat, techno, and EDM influences. The futuristic effect this song has is very reminiscent of BIGBANG, which speaks volumes about the creative genius of OMEGA X’s music. With a hook this catchy, this song isn’t going to leave your mind until you’re obsessed with the next song, ‘WHAT’S GOIN’ ON’. A fan-chant guide was also released for the same!
‘WHAT’S GOIN’ ON’ has unbelievable production value, both when it comes to the music itself as well as the music video. Each member gets ample scope to shine and rule and needless to say, they look absolutely stunning while doing so. The music video pays incredible attention to detail and we couldn’t be happier about all the close-up shots. There’s a fearless synergy in the music video that is impossible to deny. In other words, ‘WHAT’S GOIN’ ON’ is beyond cinematic.
Dance
With 11 members, dance and choreography become crucial components of any comeback. If there’s anything we’ve learned from being with OMEGA X so far, it is that no one does street and hip-hop with as much dynamic vivacity and seamless synchronization as OX. There’s not a single flaw or slip in timing, even when they’re performing live without a break. It is almost as if dance is hard-coded into their system. We can already see a number of dance challenges arising from this masterful choreography, especially with how many killing points it has. If this is how hard OMEGA X bring it for a single album, we’re nowhere near ready for what they have in store for us next. Are you a FOR X?
