There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other. So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias. Sab is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from the Philippines and is a fan of TREASURE, and particularly of Asahi. Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more! Hello Kpopmap readers! I am Sab, a TREASURE MAKER from the Philippines. I have been into K-Pop since 2012 but took a break for years. The one who got me back on track is TREASURE. How and when did you enter the fandom? Back in 2020, I stumbled upon their YouTube channel. There were familiar faces since I watched the survival show, “YG TREASURE BOX” in 2018. I wasn’t aware of their YouTube channel at first as I am not updated to their latest activities after YGTB. In their channel, during the pre-debut days, there is a variety of entertaining contents to choose from: “TREASURE MAP”, “3-Minute-Treasure”, “T.M.I”, “Fact Check”, “T-Talk”, and “Behind The Scenes”. Dance and song covers of the members were also uploaded and found in their channel. Upon watching “TREASURE MAP”, I realized that they are not only talented, but also have a great sense of humor. What are the reasons why you love your favorite group? There are a lot of things to love about them and being talented is a given. Most of the members can make their own songs and even participated in producing the songs in their album. Aside from their talent, I also love their synergy. There are 12 members in their group with diverse personalities but all of them go well with each other. If you watch their contents, you can definitely see what I’m talking about. Moreover, the members have pleasing personalities. They are respectful towards the people around them and I love how they care for TREASURE MAKERs. Who caught your attention at first and why? The one who first caught my attention is Bang YeDam. He is already widely known even before he joined TREASURE as he participated in “K-Pop Star 2”. I have always been so fascinated with his vocals and his ability to produce music. Who is your bias, and why? My bias is Asahi. I truly admire his passion to produce music. If we were to compare his past interviews to the present, we can notice that he has always been consistent with his dream. Asahi aspires to be an artist that has a good influence and he really did become one. He is very talented and he shows it through his music, paintings and drawings, and through photography. Moreover, his 4D personality is very appealing to me. He seems fun to be with and I love how he bonds with the members. Here are some of his paintings that he uploaded on Twitter: Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans? All of their songs are great but I’d like to recommend their latest title track ‘JIKJIN’ from their album “The Second Step: Chapter One”. It’s perfect for those who want to get energized by singing and dancing along with the song. For the B-side track, it would be nice if you would listen to ‘Orange’. It is memorable for me since Asahi composed the song and even participated in making the lyrics. Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group? There is a wide variety to choose from but I would really like to recommend “TREASURE MAP”. Watching “TMAP” is one of the best things to ever do whenever you need a good laugh. My favorite “TMAP” episodes are 41-43 where TREASURE had to make their own meals for the rest of the day. Episode 58 is the latest episode and it is about their one year anniversary since debut. “Jikjin Festival” is also fun and exciting. Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics? “위로해줄래 네 품에 기대 힘든 일도 없던 일로 그렇게 내일도 널 찾아갈게” Translation: “Will you comfort me? Resting in your arms Makes hardships disappear And tomorrow I’ll find you again” - ‘Everyday’ Can you describe your bias in only one word? Artistic. Asahi can be quiet and goofy at the same time. But whenever he’s performing on stage, he is professional and charismatic. He makes such great facial expressions and gestures when performing. Can you recommend words that your bias like to hear to new fans who don’t know yet about it? “Be happy.” Asahi likes to say this phrase and I feel like he would also want to hear the same thing. He always wishes happiness to everyone around him. Are there any words from the members you would like to share? “Even if we don’t make it big at first, I want to grow bigger little by little.” - Bang YeDam Have you ever made a new friend because of K-Pop? Yes! I’m really glad that I met people who share the same interest as me and love TREASURE the way that I do. Thank you for answering our questions, Sab.
