He’s certainly improved as an actor since his debut in “Memories of The Alhambra” and his breakout performance in “Extraordinary You”. Lee JaeWook plays the mischievous, yet powerful Jang Wook as he masters his newfound magical energy while looking into the mysteries surrounding his birth. Lee JaeWook’s acting skills have been terrific and every moment with him on the screen has been an absolute joy to watch. So, to prepare for the K-Drama’s nearing end, let’s take a look at some of the best scenes of Lee JaeWook. Warning: This article contains spoilers.
1. Showing Off His Toned Body
When we first meet Jang Wook, we learn that his energy has been sealed. This makes him unable to perform any magical spells and weak in the eyes of the many mages that inhabit Daeho. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been training at all. His toned muscles are evidence enough that he’s been working hard and is ready to begin his training to become the best mage of all of Daeho. All seriousness aside, it also definitely serves as a form of fan service for all those who waited for JaeWook’s return to the small screen.
2. Unsheathes A Sword For The First Time
This scene kept viewers at the edge of their seats as tensions rose between Crown Prince Go Won (played by Shin SeungHo) and Jang Wook while they fought for the possession of Jang Wook’s father’s sword. Their duel came to a boiling point once Moo DeokYi spilled dirty water on the Crown Prince’s robes in order to prevent further injuries of her master. Enraged by her actions, the Crown Prince decides to punish Moo DeokYi, but before he could do so, Jang Wook unsheathes his father’s sword and blocks the Crown Prince’s attack just in time. We definitely were not nervous while watching this intense scene.
3. “I also missed you”
While this K-Drama is filled with action scenes and fantastical elements with the use of magic, there are moments like this that tug on our heartstrings. During his secret trip outside to take a break from training, Jang Wook receives the paper of Songrim’s hiring announcement from Moo DeokYi. He interprets it as a letter stating the lengths that Moo DeokYi would go to stay by his side. With a warm gaze and slight smile, Jang Wook responds “I also missed you”, causing butterflies to appear in every viewer’s heart.
4. Shows Off His Mastery Of Chisu
Moo DeokYi and Crown Prince Go Won make a bet on whether or not Jang Wook can defeat at least one mage in Songrim. But up until this point, Jang Wook has been beaten by every opponent he’s gone up against. Despite his losses, he never gives up and continues to improve with each match. After days of nonstop fighting and special training with Master Lee (played by Lim ChulSoo), Jang Wook shows his improved skills and mastery of chisu, an advanced magical technique. Although he loses in the end, everyone is amazed at his innate ability to learn spells at such a quick rate and showing that he was born to be a mage.
5. “Now, you look pretty no matter what”
Jang Wook and Moo DeokYi have continued to grow closer as the story progresses, giving viewers a reason to smile whenever they are together on screen. This scene is no different, as the two randomly meet at a jewelry and make-up vendor on the street. They share a cute impromptu date together, laughing and playfully putting make-up on each other’s faces. When the teasing between the two ends, he states “I only thought your eyes were pretty… Now, you look pretty no matter what”. Don’t worry Moo DeokYi— we’d be flustered after hearing that, too.
