The list is divided into TWO PARTS, the confirmed dramas based on webtoon for 2023 (this one) and the webtoons announced to be adapted in dramas sometime soon but with no confirmation of broadcast. Here are the dramas based on webtoon confirmed to air in 2023. We often update the list through the year, don’t forget to bookmark us for updates!
1. “Wedding Impossible”/ Schedule status: 2023
The romance webtoon “Wedding Impossible” (in Korean “웨딩 임파서블”) by Lee Chung and Song JungWon is announced to be adapted into a drama. It is a romance with desire conflicts between a gay chaebol heir who ask an unknown actress to marry and the chaebol’s ambitious younger brother. 2. “Duty After School” / Schedule status: TBA
Studio Dragon announced that they will adapt the thriller webtoon “Duty After School” (in Korean “방과 후 전쟁활동”, literal translation “After School War Activities”) by Ha IlKwon into a web drama. It tells the story of students of the country about to pass the CSAT who have been conscripted to fight an unidentified object for extra points. PD Sung YongIl (“Class of Lies”) and writer Lee NamKyu (“The Light In Your Eyes”) are in charge of the production of the webdrama. Shin HyunSoo, Hwang SeIn, Ahn DoKyu, Kim SuGyeom, Kwon EunBin, and more are cast. It is a TVING original. Webtoon links: Korean / English.
3. “Moving” / Schedule status: TBA
The supernatural webtoon “Moving” (in Korean “무빙”) by Kang Full was announced to be adapted into a drama. A supernatural story about high school students and their parents who keep secrets that others don’t know. The director Mo WanIl (“Misty” and “The World of the Married”) is in charge of the production of the drama. Zo InSung, Han HyoJoo and Cha TaeHyun are cast in this Disney+ drama. 4. “Oh ManSang and Prejudice” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “Oh ManSang and Prejudice” (in Korean “오만상과 편견”) by WanKyeol is announced to be adapted into a drama. It tells the story of a man and woman who always encounters misunderstanding and prejudice. The drama will air on Channel A. Ji HyunWoo and Song HaYoon received the cast offer back in 2020. 5. “Homework For The Heart” / Schedule status: TBA
“Homework For The Heart” (in Korean “마음의 숙제”) will be adapted into a drama. It tells the story of LeeKyung, who moved to LeeWonDong, a neighborhood where everyone avoids and she met again her first love HoSeon who has become a vampire after disappearing 13 years ago. Byun YoHan’s agency denied the reports of him receiving a casting offer. The drama will air on JTBC and PD Lee DongYoon (“She Would Never Know”, and more) is in charge of the production. 6. “Bloodhound” / Schedule status: TBA
The thriller webtoon “Hunting Dogs” (in Korean “사냥개들”) by JungChan will be adapted into the drama “Bloodhound”. It tells the story of three men who got entangled with each other due to debt and their attempt to get out of it. It will be a Netflix Original drama with 8 episodes. Director Kim JuHwan (movies “Midnight Runners”, “The Divine Fury”) is in charge of the adaptation. Woo DoHwan, Lee SangYi, Park SungWoong, and Jung DaEun are cast. 7. “History of Losers” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “History of Losers” (in Korean “찌질의 역사”) by Kim Poong and Sim YoonSoo is announced to be adapted into a drama. It tells the story of 20 years old boys who evolve into men. 8. “Black Knight” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “Delivery Knight” (in Korean “택배기사”) by Lee YungYun was announced to be adapted into the Netflix drama “Black Knight”. The story takes place in a dystopian future where the air pollution has become so serious that people only live out of delivery. Kim WooBin, Esom, and Kang YouSeok are cast for the drama. 9. “Dak Gang Jeong” / Schedule status: TBA
The science fiction thriller webtoon “Dak Gang Jeong” (in Korean “닭강정”) by Park JiDok was announced to be adapted into a drama. The webtoon tells the strange story of how a beautiful young girl, Choi MinAh, is turned into fried chicken because she happens to enter a mysterious machine. Director Lee ByungHun (“Melo Is My Nature”, “Extreme Job” and more) is in charge of the said production. Ahn JaeHong, Ryu SeungRyong, and Kim YouJung are cast for the drama. 10. “Aquaman” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “Aquaman” (in Korean “아쿠아맨”) by Mcqueenstudio will be adapted into a drama. It depicts the love and friendship of young people beyond gender. It is planned by Kakao Entertainment. 11. “Mask Girl” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “Mask Girl” (in Korean “마스크걸”) by MaeMi and HuiSe will be adapted into a Netflix drama. It tells the story of Kim MoMi who has a great body but an unattractive face. She dreamed of becoming a celebrity, but she gave up because of her face. She lives as an office worker during the day and is the ‘BJ Mask Girl" at night. The romance webtoon “See You in My 19th Life” (in Korean “이번 생도 잘 부탁해”, “Please Take Care Of Me In This Life as Well”) by Lee Hey is announced to be adapted into a drama. It tells the reckless romance of a woman who remembers her past lives. Shin HaeSun and Ahn BoHyun are cast for this 2023 drama. The webtoon “Money Game” and “Pie Game” (the sequel to “Money Game”) (in Korean “파이게임”) by Bae JinSoo was announced to be adapted into an OTT drama. It tells the story of 8 people, who participate in a TV reality show where eight participants are isolated and left to survive with a shared amount of 44.8 billion KRW. They will win the money they manage to save together. Chun WooHee, Ryu JunYeol, Park JeongMin, Park HaeJoon, Bae SungWoo, and more are cast. The webtoon “Morning Comes To The Mental Ward” or “Nurse Sheena’s Asylum Diary” (in Korean " 정신병동에도 아침이 와요") by Lee RaHa. It tells the story of a nurse working in a mental ward. 16. “The Borrowed Body” / Schedule status: TBA
The teen romance webtoon named “Borrowed Body” (in Korean “빌린 몸”) by Park SeKye is announced to be adapted into a drama. The story is set at a private institute with first years of high school. SangYoo became gloomy because of a scandalous rumor, DaRim is a top student and a good athlete, and she likes HoYoung. The three are the lead characters. DaRim was dumped after confessing to HoYoung and by accident her body was changed with SangYoo. Studio 329 is in charge of the adaptation. Nam YoonSu, RyeoUn, and Park HaeEun are cast. 17. “The Girl Downstairs” / Schedule status: TBA
The popular romance webtoon “The Girl Downstairs” (in Korean “이두나!”) by Songah Min is getting an adaptation. It is a light-hearted yet meaningful webtoon about two young people who cross paths and change each other’s lives forever. Suzy and Yang SeJong are the leads of this Netflix Original Series. 18. “Vampire Chef” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “Vampire Chef” (in Korean “뱀파이어 셰프”) by SeoYun and Kim MinHye will be adapted into a drama. It tells the blood purification project of the chef and owner of a restaurant named Hong KiJoon. Cho YiHyun is in talks to be the childhood friend of Hong KiJoon. Webtoon links: Korean / English.
19. “Things Have Fallen Off” / Schedule status: TBA
The short webtoon “Things Have Fallen Off” (in Korean “떨어져 나간 것”) by TaRi will be adapted in a drama. It tells the story of a woman who looks back on her memories with her ex-boyfriend. 20. “Follow the Wind” / Schedule status: TBA
The BL webtoon “Follow the Wind” (in Korean “따라바람”) by Geomdong and JUSTOON will be adapted in a drama. It is a music romance story about the dreams of the band “Follow the Wind”, with its vocals “Wind” and the band’s manager HanTae. Jang DoYoon and more are cast in this BL drama announced to air soon. 21. “The Year We Turned 29” / Schedule status: TBA
The youth romance comedy webtoon ‘The Year We Turned 29" or “Us Being 29” (in Korean “아홉수 우리들”) written by Soo BakYang is announced to be adapted into a drama. It tells the story of three friends who are 29 years old and who are going through this harsh year ending with a “9”. El-rise who has produced the drama “When the Devil Calls Your Name” is in charge. The webtoon “Vigilante” (in Korean “비질란테”) by CRG and Kim KyuSam was announced to be adapted into a movie and a Disney+ drama. The webtoon “The Witch” (in Korean “마녀”) by Kang Full was announced to be adapted into a drama. It tells the story of a man who loves a woman he calls a “witch”. The webtoon “Joseon Lawyer” (in Korean “조선변호사”) by Sim Gun and Writer Jeong was announced to be adapted into a drama. It is a refreshing and heartwarming story about Kang HanSu, a lawyer who plans lawsuits and even takes advantages of the feelings of wronged victims. Due to unintended events, he becomes revered as the people’s “solver” and hero, which causes him to really grow into a just lawyer. Woo DoHwan and WJSN’s BoNa are cast for this 2023 drama. 25. “A Shoulder to Cry On” / Schedule status: TBA
The BL webtoon “A Shoulder to Cry On” (in Korean “소년을위로해줘”) by DongMul is announced to be adapted into a drama. Here is the summary: due to TaeHyun’s joke, DaYeol gets falsely accused of scandalously attacking him. Among the archers, DaYeol’s athletic path is in danger. DaYeol asks TaeHyun to explain the truth; however, he discovers that he is getting swayed by him. OMEGA X’s JaeHan and YeChan are cast for the drama. The thriller webtoon “The Murder and the Toy” also called “Murder DIEary” (in Korean “살인자o난감”) by Kkomabi and Nomabi is announced to be adapted into a Netflix drama. It tells the story of a man who became a murderer after an accident and a detective chasing him. Choi WooShik and Son SukKu are cast for this Netflix original drama. 27. “Death’s Game” / Schedule Status: TBA
The webtoon “Death’s Game” (in Korean: “이제 곧 죽습니다”) by Lee WonSik and Ggulchan will be adapted into a drama. The story revolves aroun YiJae Choi, a 31-year old job seeker who couldn’t find a job for 5 year after graduating from college. His ex-girlfriend, who he dated for 6 years, will be marrying another man 3 months after breaking up with him. YiJae commits suicide by jumping off a building, and experiences a reincarnation. 28. “The Moon That Rises in the Day” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “The Moon That Rises in the Day” (in Korean “낮에 뜨는 달”) has been announced to be adapted in a drama back in 2018 but still not the production schedule is not confirmed. It is a story about a man whose time has stopped and a woman who is passing through past and present. It is not a simple love story but a ‘romance thriller’. Kim YoungDae is in talks for casting. 30. “Homeland and Nationality” / Schedule Status: TBA
The webtoon “Homeland and Nationality” (in Korean “조국과 민족”) by Kang TaeJin was announced to be produced into a Netflix drama. The story revolves around DoHoon Park, an intelligence agent who is not afraid to resort to violence and torture for the way of his country, and how he was recruited by a South Korean agent with who he makes a secret deal, which he shouldn’t have done. Yoo JaeMyung is in talks for casting. The script was reported to be written by “Narco-Saints” scriptwriter Kwon SungHwi, and it will be directed by Baek SeungHwan. The webtoon “HeeSu In Class 2” (in Korean “2반 이희수”) by Lily was announced to be produced into a web drama. The story is about the youthful romance of HeeSu, an ordinary 18-year old boy, and his neighbor who has a secret. Lee SangJun and Cho JunYoung are cast for the web drama. The romance fantasy webtoon “A Good Day To Be a Dog” also called “Lovely Again Today” (in Korean “오늘도 사랑스럽개”) is to be adapted into a drama. It tells the story of a woman that has been cursed to change to a dog every night and a guy who is afraid of dogs. She tries to remove the curse. The webtoon “Deal” (in Korean “거래”) by WooNam20 is announced to be adapted into a Wavve drama. It tells the story of three high school alumni who meet for the first time in a while and drink a lot. They put one of them to sleep because he was too drunk but they received a phone call saying that he was kidnaped. Will the two of them get him back safely? The webtoon “Jung Nyeon-i” (in Korean: “정년이”), written by Seo Ire and illustrated by NaMon, was announced to be produced into a drama. The story revolves around JungNyeon, a girl from Mokpo, who dreams of becoming part of the Gukgeuk Troupe (a play with women as actresses). Kim TaeRi is in talks for casting. 35. “Unintentional Love Story” / Schedule status: First half of 2023
The BL webtoon “Unintentional Love Story” (in Korean “비의도적 연애담”) by PB is adapted into a web drama. It is a romance that tells the story of a relationship that starts with a lie but eventually blossoms into real love. Season 2
36. “Taxi Driver 2” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “Deluxe Taxi” (in Korean “모범택시”) (official English title “Red Cage”) by Carlos and KeuKeu JaeJin was adapted into the drama “Taxi Driver” in 2021. SBS will release a season 2 of the drama. It tells the story of a special taxi company Rainbow Transportation and their deluxe taxi driver Kim DoGi’s complete acts of revenge on behalf of unfair victims. Lee JeHoon, Esom, Kim EuiSung, and Pyo YeJin are the lead actors of the season 1. Lee JeHoon was confirmed for the season 2 and more details are to be announced by SBS. 37. “D.P. 2” / Schedule status: TBA
The webtoon “D.P Dog Day” (In Korean “D.P 개의 날”) by Kim BoTong was adapted into the Netflix Drama “D.P.” on Netflix in 2021. A season 2 is in work. It is a story about JoonHo and HyoYeol, two members of the D.P. Arrest Team in charge of capturing army deserters, and the stories they learn about the deserters along the way. 38. “Sweet Home 2 & 3” / Schedule status: TBA
In 2020, Netflix released the season 1 of “Sweet Home” based on the popular thriller horror webtoon “Sweet Home” (in Korean “스위트홈”) by Carnby Kim and YoungChan Hwang. A season 2 and 3 is on its way. It tells the story of a loner high school student who lost his family and the bizarre and shocking things that happened to him in his new flat. Song Kang, Lee SiYoung and Park GyuYoung are confirmed.
